Redpath Village in the Newspapers.
Newspapers are a great source of information. Whilst official records can provide the facts, newspaper and the writers can provide the feel and an attitudes of the times.
Our earliest local newspaper that cover Redpath would most likely be the Kelso Chronicle, which was in circulation in the 1840’s. The Berwickshire News and the Southern Reporter, started to Publish in 1855
However some earlier Redpath news items can be found in the Caledonian Mercury, which was publishing well before our local papers

Some of the villagers in Redpath worked as hawkers, pedlars and muggers. These terms were occupations, a hawker and pedlar was a person who would make make objects to sell and travel around the country selling their goods. A mugger was a person who made cups and mugs. They would also travel the country to sell their goods. Muggers were also sometimes called china dealers.
